In my role as SportMedBC’s RunWalk Coach, I prepare thousands of people throughout the province of BC to safely and comfortably complete the Vancouver Sun Run in April every year… Participants follow my programs and coaching advice through SportMedBC in clinics, online and through the Vancouver Sun Newspaper. This year at SportMedBC I’m able to add to my coaching advice through Weekly Video Tips, complete with guest speakers providing info on related fitness topics including Nutrition, Habit Changes, RunWalk injuries you-name-it. It’s fun and informative, and definitely more interesting than than the written word. Here’s the link to Week 1, and you can follow through each of the weeks if it makes sense for you. No matter what program you may be following, the principals of training remain the same: You need to progress carefully and logically, without doing too much too fast too soon, or chances are you’ll wind up with an injury – that’s the nature of the beast: Running and Walking require impact with every step, and you’ve got to respect that impact or it’ll get ya! A quick tip that you need to remind yourself of every time you complete a RunWalk Workout: “You should always feel as though you could have done more.”
